Discover your Goals and Strive for Personal Success!

Feeling like you are capable of more? Concerned that you are not passionate about much in your life? Perhaps wanting to restructure and reorganize your priorities? How about leveling up a skill, or wanting to work on your fitness or studies? Well, you have come to the right place! I believe all people are capable of accomplishing amazing feats once their full being is behind them driving their actions. Read through the below post to discover your goals and strive for success!

One of my strong passions is to help others in unlocking their potential and lighting the fires of passion within them. I truly feel that there is nobody both more awe-inspiring and fearsome than someone with set goals, the dedication to achieve them and burning flames of passion in their eyes, and in the depth of their soul. So here are my personal steps on how to begin your journey to becoming the best version of yourself that you can be.

Step One: Ride the Brainstorm

While we are capable of working hard towards a goal that we may not value highly on a personal level, not much can stand in the way of someone who is both passionate and hard working. The first step is finding what you care about, what moves you, what you want from life. This can be a tough process and can involve a good amount of self-reflection.

I advise that you take some time by yourself and find somewhere quiet to relax, then close your eyes and have a good think. Firstly, about what your mind desires, and then what your heart desires. The best personal goals are usually backed by both. Try your best not to be restrictive in your thoughts at this stage, allow yourself to acknowledge any and all goals or passions regardless of size or difficulty.

  • Keep things personal and don’t consult anyone else until ideas become more concrete
  • Experiencing a bunch of different activities will give you more feedback and aid making better judgements
  • When pondering, I would personally recommend sitting down at a table or desk, and not lying down on a bed
  • Keep things light and fluid, almost like catching passing clouds with the dream catcher of your soul

Step Two: Finding your True North

Now that we have some pure, genuine thoughts and ideas, it’s time to bring them into existance by writing them down. I would recommend the good old pen and paper for this, though saving them somewhere on your phone or computer is fine too. Give yourself a pat on the back, you just made a baby dream, who said it takes two to tango? Now give these newly created goals a good read (bonus points for reading out loud) and see how they make you feel. Any excitement or positive inner reaction felt should be closely paid attention to. These are positive signs that you are moving in the right direction.

For those who really struggled with the first and second steps, I would recommend a bit of trial and error with a couple of easily accessible activities. This should give you more insight into what kind of activities you really enjoy and help to further pinpoint in on your stronger passions and values in life. Make sure you try a varied group of activities both alone and with friends where possible. Some examples could be things like going for a run/jog, visiting a museum, trying your hand at drawing or painting, joining a yoga class, learning to cook your favourite meal or showing off your knowledge at the local pub quiz night.

Now, as an additional task, I always like to write out the reasons why I picked a goal in the first place to ensure they allign with my values and passions. Your reasoning is personal and it can be pretty much anything that’s important to you. Don’t worry if your personal reasons for working towards your goal are different to those around you, just ensure they are powerful enough to motivate you. Though with this in mind, reasons such as “Because I have to” or “Because other people are doing it” are not usually powerful enough to keep you going when things get tough.

Step Three: A Moment of Appreciation

This step is one many people tend to forget about but I believe to be very important. It helps keep you grounded and reminds you of the fact you are in a lucky position with more options than a lot of people around the world. Selecting goals and striving for personal development is a wonderful thing, however, I feel it is also taken for granted in developed countries. There are many people around the world who just simply do not have the resources or correct environment to do so and are working hard just to survive daily life.

So, take this opportunity to be thankful for your current position and to all those who have helped contribute to it, take a step back and realize how lucky you are to be in a position to strive for what you want in life, and that not everybody has such good fortune.

Step Four: Resource Allocation

Now we are going to start getting into the nitty gritty as we return from dreamland to the slightly less magical real world. Just as in many popular modern games, resources play an integral part in our daily lives, and striving for new goals is no exeption. Unfortunately, there are no cheat codes and spamming “robin hood” into the keyboard is not going to grant you infinite wealth.

Picking something too time consuming, something you cannot afford or something that consumes more energy than you can replenish on a daily basis will all end in the same fate, failure. I have just hinted at what I class as our main resources during our time on this earth, but here they are in a nice list.

  • Time – Nobody gets more hours in a day than anybody else, and stacked hours can go a long way
  • Money – While not everyone shares the same financial situation, it is important to choose goals workable within your own
  • Effort – Like the above, effort can also run out, so it is important to decide the amount and frequency required to keep steady progress

Step Five: Make a Plan, Action Man

We all have our own individual personalities and wonderful traits, however when it comes to how our brains work, the majority of us are in the same boat. Our brains prefer to know the tasks we need to accomplish ideally before we begin to undertake them. This allows us time to mentally and physically prepare and also contributes to better energy effeciency (which our brains love) in the long run.

With this in mind, Making a schedule which shows how you are going to progress is a vital part of acheiving your goals. You could also think of it as a road map to achievement and even plan small treats for yourself along the way to celebrate milestones of continuous hard work. Just make sure you have the following points nailed down to give you the best chance of sticking with your new routine.

  • Set realistic frequency and duration parameters that fit into your current life schedule
  • Celebrate small victories such as completing a full week/month without missing any sessions, this will keep morale up
  • Share your new schedule with family and close friends for that sweet added pressure to not quit
  • Revisit the schedule on a monthly basis to adjust difficulty, frequency and duration where needed

In Conclusion

  • Brainstorm and self-reflection
  • Find your direction and focus
  • Show appreciation for the opportunity to better yourself
  • Allocate resources such as time, money and effort
  • Create an action plan
  • Work hard and strive for success

There you have it, a solid way to help track down what you really want in life and how to increase the odds of achieving it. This method can work with any kind of goal, big or small, private or work-related. It can be surprising what you can find out about yourself when you ask and really listen for an answer. 1. I found this to be refreshing and intriguing. One problem I’ve always struggled with is to find what I want in life, I have found that some real quality alone time and self reflection is the secret. I do tend to set unrealistic goals that feel realistic to me at the time, but with the advice given here it might be a good time to start looking at the next baby step rather than then next stage of my life. Smaller goals will add up and inspire me to keep going.

Good work thanks for the advice.
